The Bone and Joint Health Project was created to help students and teachers learn more about bone health in a fun and engaging way. It’s widely agreed that building strong bones early in life is essential to prevent future fractures, as up to 50% of children experience fractures. However, there are currently no educational programs in Western Australia focused on improving knowledge and encouraging action in this area.
That’s why Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA (AOWA), Edith Cowan University (ECU), and Singular Health Group (SHG) teamed up to create this initiative. The Skeletal Central video game is a key part of this project, offering interactive resources designed specifically for students aged 12 and above. Through immersive gameplay, students can take an in-depth look at their skeleton, learn about the different types of bone cells, shop for nutritious food sources and reconstruct a bone based on different lifestyle factors.
Building strong bones during childhood and teenage years is one of the best ways to prevent osteoporosis later in life. The Skeletal Central educational tool kit also includes a range of animations, 3D anatomy viewers and twenty different classroom learning activities that align with the Australian Curriculum, making it easier for teachers to incorporate into their lessons.
The Bone and Joint Health Project offers a resource that not only helps students make healthier choices for their future but also supports teachers with engaging, evidence-based materials that fit seamlessly into the classroom.
